COMO Hotels and Resorts has announced Maalifushi by COMO — the group’s private island resort in the Maldives’ southern Thaa Atoll — has created a partnership with Tropicsurf.
This will allow visitors to access to some of the world’s most luxurious surf locations.
With 20 years experience, Tropicsurf is known as a world-renowned surf coaching and guiding operation that aims to exceed the expectations of a typical surf holiday.
Maalifushi by COMO is the only resort on this undisturbed and surreal part of the Maldives.
With world-famous surf breaks just outside the hotel’s doors, the resort provides guests with access to an experienced and friendly Tropicsurf guide.
Depending on one’s surfing experience and ability, the guide provides lagoon training, where fundamental skills such as balance are taught, as well as expert instruction in response to some of the toughest breaks in the Maldives during the April to October surf season.
Equipment is available for hire and boat transfers to the best spots are arranged — including to the famous ‘Farms’ break on the hotel’s southwest side.
COMO guests have almost exclusive access with Tropicsurf (other surfers can only reach these waters via live aboard vessels and private seaplane charters).
Ross Phillips, founder of Tropicsurf, explains why this surfing destination is so unique: “There are so many different types of breaks, which means there’s something to suit every ability.
When the waves get big you can hide and go to smaller spots. And conversely the waves rarely go flat, meaning there’s just about always something nice to ride. It’s consistent.
Additionally, the waves are perfectly shaped, offering long rides in a warm tropical environment, making it the ideal location to get some practice in and improve your skills.”
Priced at $6170, COMO and Tropicsurf’s week-long ‘Learn to Surf’ package is ideal for beginner surfers while the ‘Surf Pro’ package, starting at $7390, caters towards those with more surfing experience and practice.
Both packages include half-board accommodation at Maalifushi by COMO.
Thaa Atoll’s pristine, crystal clear beaches not only attract surfers but also divers and snorkelers.
Maalifushi provides a PADI dive centre and resident marine biologist who is more than happy to discuss and answer any questions you may have in regards to Maldives’ colourful and interesting marine life.
For those also seeking a relaxing break, personal wellbeing is catered for at COMO Shambhala Retreat at Maalifushi, where Asian-inspired holistic therapies calm the mind and recharge the body.
