Kick-start the weekend with the latest instalment of ARTBAR – The Museum of Contemporary Art’s monthly soirée that celebrates art, music, and the pleasure of sipping a cocktail at the end of a working week.
One of the newest editions to Sydney’s bar scene, ARTBAR is just that – a bar created by artists.
Australian artist and freestyle skater Shaun Gladwell will take charge as guest curator for this month’s ARTBAR, transforming the MCA collection galleries for one night only on Friday 31 August.
Lectures, live DJ sets and film screenings will make up Gladwell’s digital and retrospective performance landscapes.
With an affinity for Mad Max and fixed gear bikes, Gladwell is sure to deliver a high-octane event; employing music, design and performance to turn the gallery experience on its head.
The event will also allow guests the opportunity to view the new selection of works in Volume One: MCA Collection, which reflects the breadth of Australian contemporary art over the past 20 years. There are 13 of Gladwell’s works in the MCA’s permanent collection.
Each ARTBAR event is conceived as a unique cultural encounter, orchestrated by a different artist every time, so no two ARTBAR events are the same.
Perched high above Circular Quay at the top of the newly refurbished MCA, ARTBAR offers a lively and sophisticated evening where there is always something different to savour.
