Australia’s largest oyster festival, the Ceduna Oysterfest will be taking over the October long weekend from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 October.
Entering into its 23rd year, the beautiful Eyre Peninsula town in the west coast of South Australia will come alive with music, comedians, live shows and celebrity chefs, including Michael Angelakis.
Plenty of family-fun seafood activities and competitions are also planned like the Big Seafood Cook-off, Stein-Holding (for the adults), Iced-Coffee Holding (for the kids) and Oyster schucking.
The Oysterfest features the delicious oysters from Smoky Bay and Denial Bay, both served cooked and natural and are enjoyed with a matching glass of wine.
Attracting between 6,000 to 8,000 visitors every year, Ceduna Oysterfest will kick off with an annual dinner hosted by its event partner, the Ceduna Foreshore Hotel, on the Friday night as well as a guest performance from country music legend, Bill Chambers.
On the Saturday, Chris Sperou, 13 times National Aerobatics Champion, will perform an aerial display over the spectacular Murat Bay.
Following this is a spectacular street parade that travels from Poynton Street down to the beach-side Oysterfest site.
Families are further entertained by the Black Stick Puppet Theatre – a unique European-style traditional marionette show with some modern twists.
Thrill seekers can enjoy the carnival sideshows before heading down to the serveral food-stalls and craft displays on offer.
For a more relaxed approach, one may prefer to sit back and be entertained by live music on the lawns whilst enjoying a beverage and a deliciously fresh West Coast Oyster.
The festival culminates with a live concert in the Main Marquee followed by fireworks over the Bay.
The Oysterfest is free of entry, greatly due to the commitment of local and corporate sponsorship and community participation.
