In an announcement from Rail Europe, from the 1st of January, 2013, France will not be included in the Eurail Select Pass.
While travellers can still select France as a destination with their Eurail Select Pass until the 31st of December, 2012, it is hoped that the change will encourage travellers to use the France Rail Pass and point to point tickets; affordable and convenient rail travel options.
Point to point tickets allow travellers to tailor their tickets to their desired destinations, and a growth in sales in Australia proves that many travellers are now opting for them rather than rail passes.
For those who wish to travel whenever they please, relevant Rail Passes are available. Exclusively, for Fra
nce Rail Pass holders, a France Rail Pass ‘Easy Access’ fare will mean travellers can make last-minute bookings.
Rail Europe’s Manager Australasia, Richard Leonard believes that the change will help travellers save and that it caters to a new trend in travel.
“Gone are the days when travellers hop from city to city in a short amount of time just to tick off their ‘been there, done that’ list”, he said.
France will still be part of the Eurail Global Pass and certain Eurail Regional Passes.
