An exciting rail journey along the world’s highest-elevated track is followed by a leisurely three-day cruise through a scenic section of Asia’s longest river on a Helen Wong’s Tours visit of Tibet and Yangtze.

And the good news is that there are still spaces available for this 20-day group tour before the 2011 season’s end in November.

Priced from $A6250 per person twin share, the tour begins with a Qantas flight from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth to Beijing for a four-night stay before guests fly to Xian to see – and marvel over – the amazing archaeological wonders: the Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang.

The lifetime tour continues with a flight to Tibet’s Lhasa and visits to such inspirational sites as the Potala Palace during the three-night stay before travellers board the famous train for the overnight journey to Xining and a one-night stay.

A following flight has the group in Chongqing for the cruise of the Yangtze’s Three Gorges and the famous giant dam of the same name – aboard Victoria Cruises – to Yichang and a flight to Shanghai for a four-night stay in this vibrant cosmopolitan city.

The tour culminates with a rail journey between Shanghai and the city’s international airport on the world’s swiftest train – the Maglev – before checking in for the return flight home.

Helen Wong’s Tours’ Tibet and Yangtze program includes all air and rail travel, four to five-star accommodation, daily breakfasts and lunches, 11 evening meals, three cultural shows, transfers, sightseeing and entrance fees where specified, assistance of English-speaking guides, the Yangtze cruise and shore excursions where specified, and China visa for Australian passport holders.

In addition, a travel kit including 424-page Odyssey China book and cabin bag are also included in the price along with departures taxes, security charges and fuel surcharges (subject to change).

Supplement for single travellers is $1720 for the departures on October 6, 13, 20 and in November.

Meanwhile, spaces still remain on the following Helen Wong’s Tours group itineraries for October and November:

  • 26-day Splendid Yangtze, priced from $A7690 per person, twin share from Australia;
  • 21-day Magical China, priced from $A6190 per person, twin share from Australia.
