Last week the small yet beautiful Constitution state made an appearance in Sydney.

Guests were invited to experience the “Tastes and Sights of Connecticut” at the InterContinental Hotel in the CBD.

U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney and “Mark Twain” welcomed guests and explained the many reasons to stop by charming CT while in the States.

Nestled on the coast next to New York and Massachusetts, Connecticut boasts some beautiful beaches, excellent wineries and of course, lots of New England-style food.

Part of the tri-state area including New York and New Jersey, Connecticut is a quick train ride away from the bustling city of New York.

U.S. Consul General Niels Marquardt described it as a great weekend away during your next trip to NYC or Boston.

Some of the highlights include Mystic Country, the eastern part of Connecticut, where you can visit the Mystic Aquarium and the Museum of America and the Sea.

Another popular attraction is Ivy League school Yale University located in the trendy city of New Haven.

For the foodie, there are several wine tours across the state and plenty of delicious places to eat.

Also known for their maple syrup production, there is never a shortage of sweet treats.

At the “Tastes and Sights of Connecticut” event guests dined on maple glazed roast turkey, maple marinated salmon, the famous Jake’s Wayback Burgers, pecan tarts, cotton candy, maple pumpkin cookies and a selection of Munsons Chocolates.

Representing some classic American fare were some of the team behind Jake’s Wayback Burgers with a ‘build your own’ burger bar.

While the slider size burgers were delicious, advertisements for the restaurant’s Chili Mac and Cheese burger and S’mores milkshake back in the States looked amazing and I for one wished they had also made an appearance.

Many of Connecticut’s other delicious offerings weren’t able to be shown off at the event but their renowned stuffed clams, fresh lobster and New England chowder are not to be missed.

Home to plenty of great opportunities for a holiday from beachside escapes to concerts and excitement at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort and Casinos or even a historical visit to Mystic Seaport, Connecticut is a great destination with plenty to offer.
