Europe’s largest luxury hotel barge operator, European Waterways has launched two additional ‘Downton Abbey’ cruises along the River Thames in 2014 aboard the 8-passenger luxury hotel barge, Magna Carta.
There are already three existing ‘Downton cruises’ scheduled for April 13, April 20 and May 4, with the cruises departing August 10 and August 17 now also including a visit to the remarkable, Victorian Castle.The 6-night cruise offers guests an exclusive excursion to Highclere Castle, the setting for the popular period drama series, Downton Abbey while traveling along the renowned Royal River between Hampton Court and Henley-on-Thames.
The Marta Carta cruise itinerary also includes a private tour of Dorney Court, a Tudor manor house on the banks of the Thames, where Elizabeth, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Agatha Christie’s TV series Poirot were all filmed.
The upmarket cruise concludes with a tour of Christ Church, one of Oxford’s most prestigious colleges and where Lewis Carroll wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Rates for Magna Carta’s 6-night, August 10 and 17, 2014 start at €3, 780 ($5,800 AUD) per person, and include gourmet meals, fine wines, an open bar, daily escorted excursions, local transfers and admissions and the use of on board facilities such as bicycles and spa pools.
